The company established its maiden Global Capability Center in Bengaluru, India, in November 2024, marking a pivotal expansion to bolster digital transformation, research, and innovation efforts. The 43,000 sq ft facility at Prestige Tech Park initially accommodates 600+ employees with deep domain expertise in medical technologies, vision care, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud excellence, and digital transformation.

The GCC operates as an innovation hub supporting functions around cloud computing, cybersecurity, network operations, and software development for Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. The centre leverages Bengaluru's deep IT talent pool to drive technology solutions and expand ZEISS's global R&D capabilities, accelerating the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge products including AI-driven diagnostics and smart optical devices. ZEISS has also partnered with the Karnataka government to enhance the region's R&D ecosystem for emerging technologies through a joint initiative supporting startups.

Carl Zeiss currently employs 2,500 people in India and plans to double this to 5,000 within three years, with engineering headcount growing from 600 to 1,200 by 2028. The company is also building its largest manufacturing facility outside Germany near Bengaluru airport with an investment of ₹2,500 crore. The India unit is projected to generate ₹2,200 crore in revenue for FY2025, reflecting 19% year-on-year growth, cementing India's role as a strategically important market for the ZEISS Group."
